Dear Potential sponsor,
Bridgeport has a long deep history in Baseball, from Baseball Hall of Fame member James “the orator” O’Rourke through the mid-20th century of Industrial leagues, the Bridgeport Bees and ending with the Bluefish. I am part of group of local baseball people that have a passion for Bridgeport, particularly the history and its’ national pastime. We have formed an LLC called Bridgeport Hot Corner Baseball. Under this LLC, we operate a new college summer team called The Bridgeport Barnums with players from the Greater Bridgeport Region. 2023 was our first year and I am proud to say it was a success with the team going to the semifinals and losing in extra innings to the eventual champions.
We decided to celebrate PT Barnum due to his association with the city of Bridgeport and what better way to honor Barnum by naming the college team after him. We will be playing at Seaside Park at the foot of his Statue at Diamond #1, the land he donated to the city for such a wonderful park. The team will be playing in the Connecticut College Baseball League much like the Cape Cod League, consisting of teams in Massachusetts and Connecticut. The rosters consist of players that play in college throughout the northeast and beyond at the division1,2.3 and Juco levels. It will be the first time in many decades that Bridgeport had a true college summer league team.
We are looking for donations from small and large businesses alike. Baseball has become an expensive sport to operate but we are determined to keep the price for players at a minimum and if possible free. AAU programs charge $3000-$4000 and the players that we are offering this program cannot even afford more than $500. It costs about $1400 per player to operate a college summer baseball program and we are determined to offer our players an even lower cost through your donations. I have attached a donation form for you to submit if interested in helping us get our program up off the ground.
Thank you in advance for your support,
Sarsfield Ford
