West Haven Sailors GM/Manager Tim Binkoski accepts the CCBL Championship Trophy from Commissioner Tim Vincent
The West Haven Sailors were victorious against the Silk City Sluggers 5-2 and 5-0 on Saturday at Memorial Park. The Sailors, after coming out of the elimination bracket, needed both wins to claim the title, and they did just that.
West Haven added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Spadaccino hit a sacrifice fly, and Ryan Slack singled to left field, each scoring one run.
Canon Marshall hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fifth for the Silk City Sluggers. It was the last run Silk City scored all day in either game as West Haven’s pitching came to play.
Kyle Egidio earned the win for West Haven. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out two and walking three. Sam Ametrano, who has been a revelation this postseason at closer, collected the save.
Spadaccino was clutch with those two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Zachary Rider paced West Haven Sailors with two walks. Overall, the team had crucial patience at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game, which certainly helped them to victory in Game 1.
Two West Haven pitchers combined for the shutout in Game 2. Logan Huzi and Steve Cifarelli each pitched for West Haven en route to the Championship win. Pitching had been strong all season and it was once again when it mattered most. Cifarelli induced a groundout from Clark to get the last out for the title.
West Haven was the first to get on the board again in the first when Derek Porto doubled, scoring three runs. Getting out to an early lead was uplifting for the Sailors. Runs were at times hard to come by this team during the season.
The Sailors added two runs in the second after Ametrano doubled to center field. This was more than enough for the dominant arms West Haven boasted.
Huzi earned the final win for the Sailors. The hurler allowed four hits and zero runs over four and one-third innings, striking out two and walking two. Ryan Zeigler took the loss for Silk City. The pitcher went four innings, giving up five runs on five hits, striking out five and walking one. Cifarelli collected the save.
Ametrano and Hersh were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for West Haven. Porto led West Haven with three runs batted in with that first inning double.
West Haven saved their best games for last, and came together as a team to win the 2025 Championship.

Unfortunately, severe storm warnings in the Hartford area led to the cancellation of the 2025 CCBL All-Star game which was to be played on Thursday, July 3 at 6:30 pm at Riverfront Park in Glastonbury. Given the limited dates available for makeup games to complete the CCBL regular season, it's not practical to reschedule the All-Star game. All-Star rosters for players who would have represented the North (Southington, Simsbury, Western Mass, Glastonbury, Silk City and Meriden) and the South (Bridgeport, Waterbury, Hamden, West Haven, Gold Star and Danbury) are displayed below. CCBL Commissioner Tim Vincent congratulates the players selected for the All-Star game and wishes all 12 CCBL teams good luck as the regular season winds down and the playoffs approach.
